We divide the Optimist sailors into three categories:

- National Sailing team – the most experienced sailors, ranked objectively on a ranking list.
- ”Team Optimus” – sailors who want to do more than just weekly sailing at the local club.
- ”Happy Optimists” – the remaning Optimist sailors.

We estimate there are more than 3,000 Optimist sailors in Denmark.

We welcome international cooperation. In addition to IODA, we are involved in the Nordic area in cluding the Nordic Championship and an annual joint training camp and the North European challenge project. We also join the Europeans and the World Championships.

We have initated closer cooperation with other boat classes, first of all Zoom 8, in order to attract more funds and as support to the vision of ”kids sailing for life”.

We encourage our sailors to join international events, like the Lake Garda Meeting in Italy during Easter and high quality training camps in Barcelona and at Grand Canaria during the winter season. In parallel we support events in Denmark, also in the winter period, when the weather permits sailing.

Every year we have a number of regattas with international participation including the Open Danish Championship. You are always welcome to send us an email and we will be pleased to respond to your requests.
